Bangladesh Barta: Quoting the reference of a sensible police source, several national dailies and electronic media have published report stating that a special instruction had been sent from the police headquarters to the DIGs of all ranges and 64 police superintendents asking them to shot fire if necessary and there is no need of taking any permission from the high ups. The Director General of RAB, Benjair Ahmed told the journalists in front of the BG Press pm 4th November night, the law enforcement members may shot fire anytime to protect themselves along with the citizens and they do not need any instruction for doing so. While, Dhaka Metropolitan Commissioner Asaduzzaman Mia said while holding meeting with the Additional Police commissioners and Deputy Police commissioners that policeman can fire anytime without any permission while discharging duties at the check post if he comes under attack. Acting Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami, Dr. Shafiqur Rahman has issued the following statement on 5th November, 2015 expressing deep concern acknowledging such instruction of the Police headquarters and aggressive instruction of the Police and RAB high ups.
“Such instruction and approval of the high ups would make the entire police forces more desperate and aggressive. The general police members would not care for accountability for such instructions. This is why, there are alarming possibilities of open firing of the police forces against the opposition leaders and activists and the general masses. This aggressive strategy would put the police forces in a face to face position against the mass people. Such tactics would not bring any positive result for any quarter. Such instruction and order goes completely against the law, constitution and human rights.
The government has turned the police forces into an opponent force of the people as they utilized the law enforcers to repress the opposition forces for last 6 years. Resultantly, the image of this force has been severely damaged in the local and international arena.
This is why; I am urging the concerned authorities to withdraw their instruction showing respect to the constitution, rule of law and human rights in order to make this force as a safeguard of the people.”
